See Healthier Together at Work: How Your Gifts Are Transforming GRH

It’s been one year since the opening of Grande Ronde Hospital’s Surgical Services Expansion. Operations have moved from three 450-square-foot suites built in the 1960s to custom-built, industry-leading 600- and 700-square-foot operating rooms—where Grande Ronde Hospital’s surgical teams provide big-city medicine with a hometown touch.

From Old ORs to New Opportunities

Understandably, there was a swell of excitement through the construction of the new building, leading up to the grand opening and first surgeries.

But what many don’t think about is: what happens to the old operating rooms? What becomes of all that space? One might presume the hospital would simply “make it happen” and repurpose it—but that transformation takes careful planning and investment.

Investing in the Future of Diagnostic Care

The Grande Ronde Hospital Foundation has now taken the next major step toward expanding diagnostic capacity by investing more than $3.5 million to enhance imaging, radiology, and nuclear medicine services at Grande Ronde Hospital.

In 2024, the Foundation purchased two new ultrasound machines, replacing older models and providing higher-quality images for better diagnosis and interpretation.

Earlier this year, the Foundation also approved the purchase of a new fluoroscopy machine, replacing an outdated unit. A fluoroscope acts like a “live” X-ray, allowing clinicians to view body functions in real time—something that standard MRI and CT scans cannot do. These newer fluoroscopy units offer lower radiation exposure, clearer and faster imaging, and expanded diagnostic capabilities.

Remodeling for Advanced Imaging

Because this new fluoroscope requires more space and power, the Foundation has also committed to funding the remodel of the original operating room suite to create a new home for the fluoroscopy machine, a new X-ray machine, and the future installation of an upgraded nuclear imaging system.

This new suite will deliver faster and sharper images, greater patient comfort, and lower exposure to imaging materials—all of which lead to faster, more accurate care for you and your family.

The remodel is currently underway. The new fluoroscope is expected to arrive later this fall, with the imaging suites anticipated to open in late winter or early spring.
